Homme+Femme, a Black-owned streetwear brand, has launched its third collaboration collection with Churchill Downs in honor of the 150th anniversary of the Kentucky Derby. This partnership shines a light on the history of Black horsemen, style, heritage and elegance, paying homage to the significant contributions of African American Horsemen to this iconic event.
“This is collaboration number three with Churchill Downs, and each one has meant just as much as the other,” founder Drew Evans reflects on the significance of this ongoing partnership, highlighting the brand’s recognition by one of the most prestigious sporting institutes globally.
The collection features a range of pieces including a new iteration of the Varsity Jacket, cardigans, tees, hats, and button-ups, all exclusively at Hommefemme.com. Founder and Creative Director Drew Evans explains, “We want to honor the past while also giving everyone a taste of the new generation of what’s next. That’s why we named it New Wave.”
Rooted deeply in Los Angeles, Homme+Femme’s collection embodies authenticity while incorporating the essence of Churchill Downs. “Our presence is irreplaceable, and Homme+Femme embodies the idea of rising to the top and reaching an elite status,” states Drew Evans, emphasizing the brand’s commitment to excellence and inclusivity.
The history of Black horsemen and the Kentucky Derby is woven into the fabric of this collaboration, with 15 of the first 28 Derbies won by Black jockeys. Drawing inspiration from this rich heritage, Homme+Femme’s collection celebrates diversity and inclusiveness, showcasing the resilience and creativity of minorities in the fashion industry.
